Field Day, Sunday February 4th, 2007

High Spa field dayWe extend a warm thank you to the 200 visitors who came along to our Beef Week Field Day on a very hot Sunday.   The early 2007 rains had created a little bit more confidence in some better seasons to follow with repeat customers and new clients buying some of the great young bulls on offer as well as PTIC females and heifers with calves at foot.

If you couldn’t make it to our open day there is still opportunity to buy from the Open Day sales catalogue and your inquiries are always welcome.  Visitors also enjoyed the information sessions about supplying cattle into the CAAB program and “Animal nutrition during tough seasons” as well as the DPI NLIS demonstrations.  You can be assured that at each of our annual Open Days you will find not only excellent cattle but valuable industry related information.

We had one lucky winner of the “Lucky Gate Prize” (every one who walked through the gate went in the draw) Glenn Heily of Rushworth, and another winner, Gail Elliot of Trentham, with not so much luck but skill because Gail was the closest guess overall to the weight of the 3 bulls.  This competition creates a lot of interest and for those of you interested in comparing your guesses with the actual weights here are the weights for this year’s competition.

  • B57, weighed in at 440 kg (Gail’s guess 432 kg)
  • A137, weighed in at 636 kg (Gail’s guess 645 kg)
  • A66, weighed in at 668 kg (Gail’s guess 655 kg)

It isn’t the closest result we have had since the running of the competition but Gail was 21 kg closer than the runner up.  It is quite a challenge to be consistent with your guesses across 3 animals.  Congratulations to both Glenn & Gail and if you also want to join in the fun come along and see us next year (and if you are female your chances are good in judging the bull’s weights because we have had 3 women win the prize in the last 3 years!)
