Open Day Happenings

In spite of hot weather, plenty of visitors attended High Spa’s Open Day on February 1st 2009.
High Spa Open Day - Beef Week, February 1st 2009

15 bulls and a good number of PTIC females will be going to new homes after High Spa’s open day on February 1st during Stock & Land Beef Week.  It was re-assuring to see breeders out and about and selecting quality animals to maintain their herds.

A special visitor was Joe Helper, The Victorian Minister for Agriculture.  It was good to be able to show him the grass roots side of our industry.  He took in the view of a good selection of our herd on display including sale bulls and females and pens of young 2008 born females who will become some our replacement herds.  He was able to chat to commercial breeders and to other industry visitors and sampled the new line of Certified Australian Angus Beef sausages cooked up for lunch.

The industry information sessions were well attended both before and after lunch and feedback was positive with attendees appreciating the knowledge gleaned and the expertise of the various presenters.

Our lucky gate prizewinner was Phillip McDonald of Queenscliff and Bill Janetzki of Mollonghipp won the “Guess the Weight of the 3 bulls” competition - even though he was 78 kilos out overall!  The next closest guess tally was from Graeme Cain of Laanicoorie who was 104 kilos out overall. Not as close as the estimates of previous years, but well done to all involved nonetheless.

We note there are still a few excellent young bulls available for your April/May/June joining period (see our bulls sale page) and also a number of females, pregnancy tested in calf.  Inquiries for these are welcome through the contact page or phone Brian or Wayne on (03) 5348 2357

High Spa wishes to thank everyone who helped out and participated in the open day and looks forward to a further successful day in the spring.
