WE INVITE YOU TO OUR SPRING OPEN DAY ON SUNDAY AUGUST 24th 2008
AT ANY TIME BETWEEN 9 AM AND 6 PM

High Spa is aware there are growing numbers of spring calving herds and producers looking for bulls and females in spring.  We aim to cater for those herds and producers on August 24th 2008 with a quality, PTIC selection of heifers and older cows due to calve in spring.

On offer will be thirty performance recorded spring calving females comprising heifers and mixed aged cows. Top young bulls for heifer and cow joining will also be available for inspection and selection.  The open day is an excellent opportunity to view sale animals up close and to obtain all the relevant information about them with assistance in your selection.

Everyone keen to develop their knowledge and progress their businesses are encouraged to attend some or all of the available free industry information sessions to be held on the open day, commencing at 10.45 am.

A new face at High Spa’s information sessions will be Tim Brown, Sales and Production Agronomist of Highleaze Seeds, Smeaton.  Tim is highly knowledgeable in his field and will kick his session off promptly at 11 am with a brief introduction to Highleaze seeds.  He will provide information about Forage Cereals species and varieties, their uses, and give attendees informed suggestions on how to maximize their use.  Dual Purpose cereals, varieties and management will be discussed along with alternative sources of winter feed and spring sowing options and treatments.  His session will be a vital source of information for all farmers whether involved in cattle, mixed farming or other.

Tim’s session will be followed by presenter Dave Huggins, B.App.Sc (AG) Rumans Manager from Keenan Australia.  Dave is a most popular presenter at the High Spa field days with expert knowledge in his field.  Dave’s talk for the spring open day will begin at 11.45 am and revolve around supplementary feeding of grazed/ensiled cereal crops to different classes of cattle.  His talk will focus on buffer feeding of grazed crops and using cereal silage as the base of rations for early weaning, growing, finishing, dry cow and cow & calf rations.

Michael Pointer, Advisor to CAAB, will hold an informative session about the Certified Australian Angus beef program after lunch at 1.30 pm. He will also be available during the day to provide information and to answer inquiries from interested people.  Michael has a prominent long term involvement with and commitment to CAAB and knows the program inside out.

Another feature of the day will be the availability of Alan Nash from UltraStock.  UltraStock tests for pregnancies in beef and dairy cattle using ultrasound technology. Cows can be tested as early as 5 weeks after removal of the bull, which assists early management decisions and is less invasive than manual testing.  UltraStock covers Central and Northern Victoria.  Alan will be happy to talk about the advantages of ultrasound pregnancy testing and how he may be able to assist you in your farm management.
